Music Press Release
MARTHA BURKS, SINGER / SONGWRITER FOR OVER 20 YEARS HAS RECENTLY RELEASED HER INAUGURAL CD ENTITLED “FINALLY”. Currently, Martha is the featured artist at the nationally known Brooklyn Jazz Café, the Anatole Hotel’s “Nana Grille” in Dallas Texas, Prince Bistro in Plano Texas, and Ovations in Ft. Worth Texas. Martha started ‘2009’ off with a bang when she and her Jazz Band were featured live for the second year at The Potter’s House Celebrates Hidden Treasures Volunteer Appreciation Day hosted by the new Arlington Movie Bar & Grille.
On Saturday October 20, 2007 Ms. Burks opened the concert tribute celebrating Tramaine Hawkins’ four decades in Gospel Music on the Naomi Bruton main stage at the Black Academy of Arts & Letters (TBAAL) 40th Anniversary Celebration
Martha was featured on Blog Talk Radio.com in a live radio interview on November 7, 2007 hosted by Mondial Amour Radio out of Sacramento, California. Her new CD “Finally” was featured in promo spots as the interview took place. Another interview will be scheduled at a later date.
Last year she had the honor of working with Jean Carne and Tony Award Winner Linda Hopkins in our nation’s capital Washington D.C. at the Times Building for a two night engagement of the hit “Three Mo Sistas.” Martha performed live at the 2006 Black Expo in Dallas and was featured on the cover of Merge 2006 along with Chico DeBarge, Kindred Soul, the Barkeys and others. Ms. Burks is widely known for her stint at the one and only RJ’s by the Lake where she was visited by numerous celebrity artists.
By popular demand Ms. Burks made a guest appearance performing several of her show-stopping numbers, once again, with Tony Award Winner Linda Hopkins at the Clarence Muse Café Theatre on May 16 & 17, 2009
She’s back (Swingin’ with Martha) in June 2009 for the 5th season at TBAAL with her distinctive melodies, pulsating rhythms and engaging style. Her indisputable vocal skills captivate her audience and have been described as a poised vocalist and performer with class, and charm. She calls her style of music “freedom music” which is expressed in her new release.
Ms. Burks’ jazzy vocals also landed her performances at Jazba-Ratcliffe’s, Greenville Bar and Grille, Scooners, Caravan of Dreams, Rick’s Casablanca, Sheraton Park Central, Foot Loose, Floradee’s Pyramid Room at the Fairmont Hotel and Strictly Taboo. Her theatrical debut includes a One Woman Show “Pig Foot/Bottle a Beer” (TBAAL) and a leading role in “The Color of Love” a Teco Theatrical Production. True to form she is always Martha and still going strong.
